Munster Juvenile Indoor Relays 2019

January 25, 2019

Last Sunday saw a merry band of athletes head off to Nenagh to compete in the Munster Juvenile Indoor relays. Five teams in total competed for Ballymore Cobh A.C. an achievement in itself as the club has not been represented at these championships for many years. Nenagh Indoor stadium on relay day is a cauldron of activity and is intimidating for even the seasoned athlete.

Our merry band was made up mostly of first timers and the rest with limited track experience. This however did not dampen their enthusiasm. It was an early start for our U11 boys team who ran in as part of the Odd age group program while in the afternoon we had the U10 boys, U14 girls and boys finishing out with the U16 boys. Even though no finals were made each athlete gave 100% over what was for many a very tough 200m track. All the teams had members who were running a year up and all were against very experienced teams and many who have competed and won at the national level.

Each and everyone was a credit to Ballymore Cobh AC and have gained huge experience. It was great to see all still smiling at the end of the day and saying how they enjoyed the experience. This experience will really stand to them as we look forward to relays at East Cork's and County outdoors later in the year.

Also on the day were some field events for the older Juveniles, Timmy 'the medal machine' Wilk was our only representative as he took part in the U15 boys long jump. From the very first jump the result seemed rarely in doubt. Leading from the start Timmy improved as the rounds went by jumping a huge 5.35m with his final jump to cement the gold medal. In and amazing show of consistency with all 6 jumps over 5m while his competitors only manage two 5m jumps between them. A great start to the season for Timmy who will go on to compete in Nationals in March.

Thanks to family and friends who also made the trip to Nenagh to support our athletes and experience I am sure they will never forget.

Looking forward to another exciting season for T&F and hopefully this group will inspire others to compete and try out as many events as they can in the coming season.

Onwards and Upwards.
